One morning in Portugal, in the kitchen of my parents' house, I was listening to the fado music I listened to so much when I was little. I was peeling potatoes and onions.
The women were bustling around the house getting everything ready for Christmas dinner. The men were also getting ready, but to eat. Sitting at the table or on the sofa watching the news.
I saw myself in the shoes of my grandmother and my mother. It gave me a very
strange feeling. A feeling of being lost and not in the right place.
I started making a penis out of one of the potatoes and I thought ‘what would peoplethink if they came in here now?
Because it makes no sense to do that while I'm listening to fado music about the
strange way/shape of life. As it was God who gave her, Amália, the singer, this anxietyto live. (estranha forma de vida - strange form of life).
But did God give me this anxiety too? Surely not, it would be so unfair to give people anxiety...specially to women.
